Leonardo is one of the strategic industrial partners - together with British BAE Systems and Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), aimed at the development and production of a next-generation air system, defined as a ‘system of systems’. Used for multi-domain defence operations, the system is characterised by a ‘core platform’ connected with other piloted and uncrewed peripheral adjunct systems.
The programme, one of the most challenging and futuristic in the Aerospace and Defence industry, will lead the technological revolution that will shape the sector over the next fifty years.
