Job Description

The Switch Board Operator will provide professional service as part of the Trust's values and standards.

Main duties of the job

  1. Use IT equipment and Switchboard systems.
  2. Use the intranet to find information related to patient, staff, and visitor requests.
  3. Enter on‑call details and maintain contact lists using IT programmes.
  4. Answer all internal and external calls in a polite, calm, professional manner, addressing emotionally distressed callers sensitively and non‑confrontationally, and prioritising calls according to operating procedure.
  5. Respond to emergency calls calmly and professionally, following all procedures and training.
  6. Carry out the daily emergency call test, recording the procedure and training.
  7. Generate electronic emergency notifications (crash calls) accurately and confidently.
