Job Description
About the role
Hands‑on conservation role on Rakiura Stewart Island. Carry out research on the Critically Endangered Pukunui/Southern New Zealand Dotterel during the upcoming breeding season. Full‑time, short‑term role from 21September2026 to 15January2027.
Responsibilities
- Conduct extensive field surveys
- Monitor birds and nests
- Set up nest cameras
- Collect, manage and enter data
- Summarise data and report
- Organise and lead field trips
Skills and experience
- Strong back‑country experience with off‑track navigation skills
- Experience working independently in remote, exposed locations
- GIS mapping skills
- Report writing and analysis
- Experience in leading projects/teams
- Bird monitoring experience
- Data collection and collation skills
- Good physical fitness and able to carry a heavy pack
