Hands‑on conservation role on Rakiura Stewart Island. Full‑time, short‑term position from 21 September 2026 to 15 January 2027.

About the role

Research Technician to conduct research on the Critically Endangered Pukunui/Southern New Zealand Dotterel during the breeding season.

Responsibilities

• Conduct extensive field surveys.
• Monitor birds and nests.
• Set up nest cameras.
• Collect, manage and enter data.
• Summarise data and report.
• Organise and lead field trips.

Qualifications and experience

• Strong back‑country experience with off‑track navigation skills.
• Experience working independently in remote, exposed locations.
• GIS mapping skills.
• Report writing and analysis.
• Experience leading projects or teams.
