PhD Researcher in Anthropology of Humanitarianism

The University of Helsinki invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher in the Anthropology of Humanitarianism for a fixed-term four-year position starting 20 November 2026. The project investigates how humanitarian systems are transforming amid the withdrawal of international aid, with fieldwork in Kenya and diasporas in Canada.

You will conduct independent ethnographic research, develop a research plan, engage with collaborative methods, and contribute to teaching up to 5% of your time.
