Officer, Network Operations

Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Network Operations, the Officer, Network Operations continuously monitors and reports on passenger service performance and documents deviations from the cycling plan, including passenger service delays caused by mechanical issues and extraordinary situations.

The Officer coordinates communications with all internal and external stakeholders by means of SMS, e‑mail, and telephone calls to ensure that operational issues and emergency situations are properly handled.

The Officer coordinates VIA operations with host railway rail traffic controllers, mechanical troubleshooting, train connection protocol, fueling, train emergencies, service disruptions, emergency alternate transportation, and ad‑hoc reductions in capacity/inventory. The Officer provides periodic updates on the status of VIA’s trains and is the person who answers VIA Rail’s emergency telephone line.
