Overview
Mathematicians conduct research to extend mathematical knowledge and apply techniques to problems in scientific fields such as physical science, engineering, computer science, operations research, business or management. Statisticians research the mathematical basis of statistics, develop statistical methodology, and advise on practical applications in fields including biology, economics, social sciences and engineering. Actuaries apply mathematical models to forecast future costs for insurance and pension benefits, design policies, and calculate premiums and benefits.
They may also assist investment decisions and provide evidence on the value of future earnings.
