Job Description

The position is to create new knowledge for academia and industry in railway engineering concerning the life cycle management of turnouts. The main goals are:

  • Develop mathematical models for turnout ageing curves.
  • Understand key parameters influencing curves and simulate changes.
  • Support the industry in moving from corrective to predictive maintenance.

As a Doctoral Researcher you will:

  • Conduct literature review and collaborate with the partner company and Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
  • Develop mathematical models to evaluate the remaining useful life of turnouts.
  • Publish results in peer‑reviewed journals, conferences, and industry events.
  • Teach approximately 5 % of annual working hours.

The work will be supervised by Associate Professor Heikki Luomala, with support from the steering group including company representatives.
