Responsibilities
Community dental hygienists work closely with Indigenous communities, oral health service providers, and other healthcare professionals to assess needs, plan, develop, and coordinate comprehensive oral health services within the Community Oral Health Services (COHS) program. The position involves delivering oral health services directly within Indigenous communities, including screening, assessment, and the provision of preventive and restorative care in accordance with the dental hygienist’s scope of practice. The incumbent maintains confidential records and provides care in compliance with professional standards and infection prevention and control protocols. Community dental hygienists also contribute to the implementation of oral health promotion initiatives, education, and disease prevention activities. They collaborate with oral health teams and community partners to ensure safe, high‑quality services that are responsive to community needs.
